Mira’s biggest advantage is operational maturity. It supports several wand families, works across iOS and Android, ships internationally from warehouses in six countries and can extend into PCOS, perimenopause and broader hormone tracking without replacing its installed analyzers.
Inito has the strongest published evidence for a complete multi-hormone home monitor. Proov still owns the clearest regulatory claim, but only for its FDA-cleared PdG ovulation-confirmation test, not for every feature across its wider platform.
Price changes the ranking more than it first appears. Over six cycles, the article’s simple comparison puts Inito near $364, versus roughly $600 for Proov, $744 for Mira and $804 for Oova. Not a small difference.
Hertility is playing a different game. Its laboratory analysis, doctor-written reports, expert calls, insurer access and follow-up care make it the closest startup here to an actual reproductive-health service, although that model is harder and more expensive to scale.
These products can track hormone patterns, identify fertile windows and support ovulation confirmation, but they cannot tell someone definitively whether they are fertile. They do not assess the full chain of sperm, tubes, egg quality, fertilization, implantation and other clinical factors.
For now, Inito holds first place because its advantages reinforce one another: four hormones on one strip, lower refill costs, meaningful adoption, recent capital and solid validation. Mira can overtake it by turning Ultra4 and its international reach into clearly superior customer or revenue scale.

Which at-home fertility testing startups are we comparing?
The real at-home fertility testing race today includes Inito, Mira, Hertility, Oova and Proov.
We include startups that measure reproductive hormones from samples collected at home and turn those measurements into fertility or ovulation insights. Inito, Mira, Oova and Proov mainly track changing hormone levels across a menstrual cycle. Hertility uses a finger-prick blood sample to provide a broader laboratory assessment with clinical interpretation.
These products compete for some of the same customers, although they do not answer exactly the same questions. A urine monitor can help someone find fertile days and check whether ovulation followed. Hertility is closer to a reproductive-health screening service for someone investigating symptoms, ovarian reserve or possible hormonal problems.
We exclude calendar-only fertility apps, temperature wearables, general blood-testing platforms, male-only semen tests and fertility-financing companies. We also exclude Modern Fertility from the startup ranking because Ro acquired it in 2021 in a deal reportedly worth more than $225 million. Its continuing presence under Ro makes it a useful market benchmark, but no longer an independent competitor.
Private funding totals remain approximate. Tracxn reports about $28.1 million for Mira, $14 million for Hertility, $12.5 million for Oova and $9.7 million for Proov. The Times previously placed Hertility slightly higher, at $15.7 million. Inito says its latest round brought total equity funding to $45 million. Differences can come from debt, grants, crowdfunding or incomplete private disclosures.

Is there a clear leader in at-home fertility testing right now?
Inito is currently ahead overall, although Mira remains close enough to make this a genuine top-two race.
Inito combines the largest disclosed funding total, a relatively inexpensive four-hormone product, more than 200,000 couples served and solid published validation. Mira is more internationally established and has built a mature product platform, but its consumables cost considerably more and it does not publish a clean customer total that we can compare directly with Inito.
The gap is noticeable rather than overwhelming. Inito has raised about 60% more capital than Mira, yet Mira has already built worldwide fulfillment, processed millions of measurements and launched a credible four-hormone answer to Inito.
Behind them, Hertility currently has the strongest laboratory and clinical-care pathway. Oova has gone furthest in making continuous hormone data usable by outside clinicians. Proov owns the clearest narrow regulatory advantage through its FDA-cleared PdG test.

Which at-home fertility testing startup has the biggest real customer base?
Inito has the clearest lead in disclosed customers, while Mira may still be close in total testing activity.
Inito says more than 200,000 couples have used its monitor. That is the cleanest large adoption figure published by any independent company in this comparison. It describes customers rather than tests, app registrations or anonymous data points.
Mira reports more than 370,000 menstrual cycles and over four million hormone measurements. Dividing those figures gives roughly 10.8 measurements per recorded cycle. The dataset proves substantial repeat use, but 370,000 cycles cannot be treated as 370,000 customers because one person can contribute several cycles.
Hertility reported that approximately 520,000 women had completed its digital health assessment and 72,000 had ordered test kits. That implies a test-order rate of around 14% from the assessment audience. The large top-of-funnel audience is useful, but the 72,000 kits provide the more meaningful commercial comparison.
Oova says its database covers more than 10,000 users and three million hormone data points. Its average user has therefore generated far more measurements than the average implied by Mira’s published figures, which fits Oova’s focus on dense, longitudinal monitoring. It also confirms that Oova remains much smaller in customer count.
Proov promotes more than 5,000 successful conceptions, but that figure is unsuitable for measuring market scale. We do not know how many customers used the product, how long they used it or how much of each pregnancy outcome can reasonably be attributed to Proov.
Which at-home fertility testing startup has the strongest commercial traction?
Inito currently has the strongest commercial engine, with Mira likely earning more from each highly engaged customer.
Both businesses sell a reusable reader followed by disposable tests, which creates natural repeat revenue. Inito’s starter product costs $119 and includes 15 strips. Regular 15-strip refills cost $49, and the app has no monthly fee. A customer who tracks six average cycles could spend roughly $364 before discounts.
Mira starts higher. The current Ultra4 kit costs $249 with 20 wands, while another 20 wands cost $99. Mira recommends 10 to 20 tests for a regular cycle and up to 30 for a longer or irregular one. That model can generate strong revenue per customer, but it also asks customers to tolerate a much higher recurring bill.
So the likely split is simple: Inito wins more easily on volume, while Mira monetizes a smaller group more heavily. Without audited revenue, we cannot tell which company collects more total sales. But Inito’s commercial model has fewer obstacles because it reaches a similar core use case at a much lower ongoing price.
Hertility has developed the strongest alternative route to market. Irish Life Health offers access to Hertility through insurance benefits, while employers can buy testing and care packages for staff. A payer or employer can bring in dozens or thousands of users at once, making these relationships more valuable than a branded awareness partnership.
Hertility’s model is also more expensive to operate. Each order involves sample logistics, laboratory work, medical review and possibly specialist care. The Times reported accumulated losses of approximately £9.1 million in its latest detailed financial coverage. That does not make the model weak, but Hertility needs much more revenue per test than a company shipping app-readable strips.

Which at-home fertility testing startup is growing fastest lately?
Inito has moved fastest lately, while Mira has produced the strongest product response.
Inito raised a $29 million Series B in December 2025, bringing its total equity funding to $45 million. The round was intended to scale its diagnostic platform and support new tests built with AI-designed antibodies. A large new round carries more weight here than an old cumulative funding total because it gives Inito money to manufacture, market and develop products now.
Inito has also moved away from its original phone-mounted reader by introducing the wireless InSight reader. That change removes phone-compatibility friction and makes the product easier to sell across device generations. The company can now improve its reader without redesigning attachments for different phones.
Mira closed an important product gap with Ultra4. The new wand measures FSH, LH, E3G and PdG together, produces results in 16 minutes and works with Mira’s existing analyzer. Mira then added an Oura integration that places hormone readings beside sleep, temperature and recovery information. These developments push Mira beyond conception timing and further into everyday hormone tracking.
Oova has lately followed a similar path by launching its own Oura integration. Users can now view sleep and recovery information beside hormone and symptom patterns. The feature strengthens Oova’s health-monitoring story, although integrations are quickly becoming standard across the category.
Proov has refreshed its offering around a “fifth generation” system that separates intact LH and LH-beta while also tracking FSH, E1G and PdG. The product is broader than Proov’s original progesterone strip, but we found no recent financing or disclosed adoption jump comparable with Inito’s.
Hertility joined NVIDIA’s Inception program for access to AI technology and support. That may help its product development, but participation in an accelerator program says less about market momentum than a major funding round, a measurable customer jump or a large distribution contract.
Inito is currently widening its lead through capital and hardware execution. Mira is applying the most pressure through product upgrades, while Oova is improving quickly from a much smaller base.

Ultra4 now measures FSH, LH, E3G and PdG in one test, bringing Mira’s core hormone coverage level with Inito’s.
The latest Mira product is also available on both iOS and Android and ships worldwide from warehouses in the United States, United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, China and Australia. Product maturity includes these less exciting details: compatibility, inventory, replacement consumables and the ability to fulfill an order outside one home market.
Inito is simpler. One strip measures the four central hormones used to follow follicular development, the estrogen rise, the LH surge and the later PdG increase. Results arrive in about ten minutes. Someone buying Inito does not need to choose between several wand families or decide which hormones to test on which product.
Proov now covers five hormone signals, but its FDA clearance applies specifically to its PdG ovulation-confirmation test rather than the entire current platform. Its broader system also uses separate early-cycle FSH tests and multi-hormone strips, so the experience is less unified than Inito or Mira.
Oova measures E3G, LH and PdG through two daily strips read by a phone. It lacks FSH in its normal fertility kit, although the three included markers cover the main sequence needed to identify fertile days and check whether ovulation followed.
Hertility can test a wider set of hormones through its laboratory service and includes clinical interpretation. It delivers a deeper snapshot but cannot show the daily movement of a cycle in progress.
Mira wins product maturity because it has the most developed platform, broad compatibility and international availability. Inito is currently the more focused product, which may explain why it has grown so effectively despite offering fewer extensions.

Which at-home fertility test has the strongest clinical evidence?
Inito has the strongest published evidence for a complete multi-hormone home monitor, while Proov has the clearest FDA-reviewed claim.
A 2023 study in Scientific Reports tested Inito’s E3G, LH and PdG measurements against laboratory methods. The researchers reported average coefficients of variation of roughly 5% and developed an ovulation-confirmation rule with 100% specificity and an area under the curve of 0.98. Those results directly support the monitor’s central job: following hormone changes and checking whether ovulation occurred.
The paper has limits. The study validated hormone measurement and cycle classification rather than proving that Inito raises pregnancy or live-birth rates. Some parts of the laboratory comparison also used small sample groups, and the participants did not represent every infertility diagnosis. We can be confident that the device measures useful hormone patterns without claiming that it solves infertility.
Proov received FDA 510(k) clearance for an over-the-counter PdG test used as an aid in confirming ovulation. The FDA documentation describes analytical testing, clinical testing and a lay-user study. That review gives Proov the strongest regulatory support for one narrow claim. It does not automatically validate every score, supplement or recommendation now sold through the wider Proov platform.
Mira has a peer-reviewed study comparing its quantitative monitor with Clearblue over several menstrual cycles. Mira would cost about $744 if one 20-wand box covered each cycle. Proov would reach roughly $600 if the user bought a complete kit every month. Oova would cost around $804 using one initial kit and five monthly membership kits. Actual spending will vary with cycle length, testing frequency and discounts, but the order of magnitude is clear.
Mira’s premium can make sense for someone who wants a broader hormone-health platform, worldwide availability and several wand options. Oova’s price becomes easier to defend when a clinician actively uses its reports. Hertility includes an expert call, a doctor-written report and a care plan, so comparing it only by the number of tests in the box would be misleading.
For someone repeatedly tracking ovulation at home, Inito is difficult to beat on economics. Proov is attractive for a single cycle without buying a reader. Mira and Oova require customers to value their extra platform or clinical features enough to accept a much larger bill.

Irregular cycles expose the weakness of basic ovulation strips. A single LH surge does not always mean that ovulation follows, and some people with PCOS can experience elevated or repeated LH patterns. Inito follows estrogen, LH and PdG across the cycle, allowing it to open the fertile window before the surge and then look for a progesterone-metabolite rise afterward. FSH adds information about early-cycle follicular activity.
Mira follows the same four hormones with Ultra4. Its app can recommend more tests for longer or unpredictable cycles, and the company tells users with irregular cycles to consider 30 wands rather than 20. That flexibility is useful, although extra testing quickly raises the cost.
Oova can also handle irregular patterns more intelligently than an LH-only strip because it measures estrogen, LH and PdG against each user’s baseline. Its distribution also looks more like healthcare than consumer electronics. Irish Life Health includes Hertility in fertility benefits, and the company sells reproductive-health packages to employers. These channels can subsidize testing and direct people toward care before they reach a fertility clinic.
Oova leads the urine-monitoring group. Its provider platform says more than 500 clinicians use Oova, with access to over three million hormone data points through a HIPAA-compliant workflow. Clinicians can review trends directly rather than asking patients to explain screenshots from a consumer app.
Mira has also developed provider-facing tools and can share quantitative results. Its clinical distribution is less visible than Oova’s, although Mira benefits from a much larger consumer platform and wider international availability.
Inito produces detailed charts that users can share with doctors, but the experience remains primarily consumer-led. Proov offers expert chat, coaching and routes toward prescriptions, although its combination of testing, supplements and proprietary scores sometimes blurs the line between medical guidance and product sales.

Mira ships worldwide and fulfills orders from warehouses across six countries. Its reusable analyzer already supports several consumable types, allowing Mira to add a new use case without replacing every customer’s hardware. The company has done more than its competitors to build an international consumer-product operation.
Inito has a simpler proposition and cheaper consumables. Its wireless reader removes the old dependence on phone-specific attachments, making inventory and device support easier. With a large recent financing round behind it, Inito can now push a product that has already reached meaningful consumer volume.
Proov has the lightest physical product. App-read strips are cheap to ship and do not require an electronic reader. That helps distribution but also makes the core format easier for competitors to imitate. Proov’s regulatory history and interpretation software therefore carry more of its competitive weight than its hardware.

Mira’s strongest assets are its installed analyzer base, worldwide fulfillment and accumulated hormone data. As seen above, Mira reports more than four million measurements across over 370,000 cycles. Its customers can move from fertility tracking toward PCOS, perimenopause or general hormone monitoring without changing platforms.
Oova’s defense comes from clinical relationships and dense longitudinal data. Ten thousand users generating more than three million measurements implies an unusually rich average history per user. Its provider dashboard and clinician training make those records easier to use during care.
Hertility has built a different type of dataset linking health assessments, laboratory results and clinical pathways. That information could support better triage and earlier identification of reproductive conditions. The value will depend on whether Hertility can show that its models improve diagnosis or treatment decisions, rather than simply collecting more records.
Proov’s clearest defense remains its FDA-cleared PdG claim. Regulatory clearance builds trust and takes time to reproduce, although another company can eventually pursue its own clearance.
Inito has the broadest moat today. Mira’s platform may prove more valuable over a lifetime of hormone tracking, and Oova has the strongest chance of becoming difficult to replace inside specialist clinical workflows.

Can at-home fertility tests really tell someone whether they are fertile?
No at-home fertility testing startup can currently determine whether someone is fertile or infertile from one hormone panel.
Urine monitors answer narrower questions. An estrogen rise can show that the fertile window may be opening. An LH surge suggests that ovulation is approaching. A later PdG increase supports the conclusion that ovulation occurred. These measurements can improve timing and reveal unusual cycles, but they do not examine fallopian tubes, sperm quality, egg quality, uterine factors, fertilization or implantation.
Blood tests also have limits. AMH and FSH can provide information about ovarian reserve and likely response to fertility treatment. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine says ovarian-reserve markers have performed poorly when used to predict natural conception, cumulative pregnancy or future infertility in women without proven fertility problems.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists reaches a similar conclusion. AMH can help predict ovarian response during assisted reproduction, but current evidence does not support using one AMH result to predict how quickly a woman without diagnosed infertility will conceive.
Hertility can get closer to a useful clinical assessment because it combines laboratory results with medical history and professional interpretation. Even then, the result should guide further evaluation rather than act as a final fertility verdict.
The best products help people understand a cycle, notice possible problems and decide when to seek care. Any company promising a definitive fertility score from a home test would be going further than the evidence allows.
Can we trust the numbers published by at-home fertility testing startups?
We have enough evidence to rank the startups, but the public data is still too uneven to calculate credible market shares.
The companies describe scale in incompatible ways. Inito reports couples, Mira reports cycles and measurements, Hertility reports assessments and kits, Oova reports users and data points, and Proov promotes successful conceptions. A comparison that treats these numbers as interchangeable would create precision rather than discover it.
Clinical performance claims also need translation. “99% accurate” might describe agreement with a laboratory assay, correct interpretation of prepared strips, specificity at one threshold or correlation between two measurement methods. It rarely means that the product gives the right fertility conclusion to 99 out of 100 real customers.
We give the greatest weight to published studies and regulatory documents that disclose methods, sample sizes and endpoints. Inito’s Scientific Reports paper and Proov’s FDA file are the clearest examples. Mira also has peer-reviewed research, while several newer claims from Mira, Oova and Proov still rely heavily on company-run testing or summaries published on their own websites.
Commercial figures deserve the same discipline. A paying test-kit customer counts more than a free assessment, a recorded cycle or an app download. A signed payer relationship carries more weight than a marketing partnership. A newly available product is more meaningful than a prototype but less meaningful than strong repeat purchasing.
Our confidence is highest in the shape of the market: Inito and Mira form the leading pair, while Hertility, Oova and Proov lead narrower areas. We are less confident about the precise revenue gap between the top two because neither publishes audited financial results.

We would place Mira at roughly 85 if Inito represented 100 overall. Mira’s biggest obstacle is the price customers must keep paying to use it regularly.
Hertility ranks third because its product reaches further into actual healthcare. Its laboratory testing, doctor-written reports, insurer distribution and follow-up care give it the strongest position outside daily urine monitoring.
Oova ranks fourth, although it may be the most interesting specialist challenger. Its clinician adoption and dense longitudinal data are difficult to dismiss. Oova’s disclosed user base remains a fraction of Inito’s, and its monthly cost makes mass-market adoption difficult.
Proov ranks fifth. The FDA-cleared PdG test remains an important asset, and its current full-cycle system offers broad hormone coverage without requiring a reader. Recent execution has not shown the same financing, distribution or adoption acceleration as Inito and Mira.
Mira can take first place by turning Ultra4 and its international reach into clearly superior customer or revenue scale. Oova could rise through large fertility-clinic or payer contracts, while Hertility needs wider geographic expansion and stronger outcome data.

OUR METHODOLOGY
The leader in at-home fertility testing is not obvious, so we broke the question into the dimensions that most clearly separate broad market leadership from one isolated strength: customer adoption, commercial traction, recent growth, product maturity, clinical evidence, value, irregular-cycle usefulness, integration with healthcare, scalability and competitive defensibility.
For each dimension, we reviewed recent company disclosures, product pages, scientific studies, regulatory documents, clinical guidance and concrete commercial developments. We gave more weight to evidence that was specific and checkable: paying customers rather than app activity, peer-reviewed research rather than general accuracy claims, and shipped products or signed distribution relationships rather than early announcements.
We did not force incompatible disclosures into artificial market-share calculations. Couples, cycles, test kits, assessments, hormone measurements, clinicians and reported conceptions describe different forms of activity, so each figure was used only for the conclusion it could reasonably support.
Recent developments received extra weight when they genuinely changed a company’s position. New capital, improved hardware, broader hormone coverage, meaningful clinical adoption and expanded distribution can alter the competitive picture more directly than an old cumulative milestone.
Clinical claims were interpreted narrowly. A laboratory correlation, an ovulation-confirmation rule, FDA clearance for one test and a clinically reviewed care pathway are useful forms of evidence, but they do not prove that a product diagnoses infertility or improves pregnancy and live-birth outcomes.
The final ranking combines the conclusions across all dimensions. A startup could lead a specialist category without leading the market overall; first place required a strong mix of adoption, product quality, evidence, economics and momentum without one weakness large enough to cancel the rest.
