Key valuation trends in the biopharma market
Insights
- The top 10 biopharma companies represent about 53% of the dataset’s total valuation, showing that sector value remains concentrated among a relatively small group of commercial and late-stage businesses.
- Alnylam Pharmaceuticals is valued at almost 25 times the median biopharma company, which highlights the valuation gap between proven commercial platforms and the wider development-stage market.
- Moderna, Roivant Sciences and BioNTech have a combined valuation of approximately $76.5B, equal to more than 17% of the total value represented in this biopharma ranking.
- BioNTech’s $22.2B valuation is about 24 times its reported funding, showing how successful product commercialization can create substantially more value than cumulative external financing.
- Apogee Therapeutics and Arcellx both achieved valuation-to-funding ratios near 12 times, placing the companies among the strongest apparent capital-efficiency outcomes in the biopharma dataset.
- RemeGen, Harbour BioMed and Junshi Biosciences hold approximately $19.2B in combined value against about $2.7B of funding, showing the growing strength of Asian antibody developers.
- CRISPR Therapeutics, Beam Therapeutics, Intellia Therapeutics and Verve Therapeutics represent about $12.1B in combined value, but the four gene-editing companies have raised approximately $5.2B.
- Arcellx, Orna Therapeutics, Capstan Therapeutics and 2seventy bio generated approximately $12.6B of combined acquisition value, confirming continued strategic demand for differentiated cell and RNA platforms.
- Allogene Therapeutics, Lyell Immunopharma, Nkarta and Artiva Biotherapeutics are collectively valued below their combined historical funding, reflecting the public market pressure on capital-intensive cell therapy companies.
- Eikon Therapeutics has raised approximately $1.5B but carries a $361M valuation, creating a valuation deficit above $1.1B and illustrating the scale of public market compression.
- Metagenomi and Senti Biosciences raised approximately $790M combined but have a combined market value of only $78M, showing how clinical risk can rapidly outweigh substantial financing histories.
- Tarsus Pharmaceuticals reached a $2.8B valuation after raising $269M, an approximately tenfold ratio that demonstrates the value of focused execution in specialty biopharma markets.
A few word about our methodology
As you can see, we built a database that ranks startups and public companies in the biopharma market based on their current valuation.
Estimating biopharma valuations is not always straightforward. Many private companies do not disclose their valuation, while public biopharma valuations can change every trading day.
To build this ranking, we applied a structured valuation methodology and cross-checked information across multiple reliable sources.
Whenever possible, we relied on direct disclosures. These include announced valuations from completed funding rounds, public filings for listed biopharma companies and official acquisition prices.
When a biopharma company is publicly listed, we use its current market capitalization as the reference valuation.
If a biopharma company was acquired and no independent valuation can reasonably be estimated today, we use the acquisition price as the main reference point.
When a biopharma startup recently raised capital but did not disclose its valuation, we estimate the implied valuation using typical dilution levels for that fundraising stage.
In some cases, we estimate valuations using operating and development metrics. These can include revenue, licensing income, clinical-stage progress, commercial traction and valuation multiples from comparable biopharma companies.
When direct financial data is unavailable, we may use carefully selected comparable companies and other signals. These signals can include pipeline maturity, clinical results, strategic partnerships, investor quality, hiring growth and platform traction.
Clinical development risk is an important part of biopharma valuation. A successful trial, regulatory decision or commercial launch can increase value quickly, while a failed program can remove substantial value.
All estimates follow a strict evidence hierarchy. Recent funding rounds with announced valuations carry the most weight, followed by public market values, acquisition prices, operating metrics and comparable company analysis.
We also evaluate the age of every data point. Recent information carries more weight, while older funding rounds and historical valuations are treated cautiously.
Whenever information is uncertain or incomplete, we clearly distinguish between confirmed facts, implied valuations and reasonable estimates.
Because biopharma valuation data is not always fully public, each company in the ranking is assigned a confidence level based on the reliability, recency and consistency of the available evidence.
Full confidence means the valuation is supported by strong and recent evidence. Strong confidence means the estimate is well supported but includes minor inference. Partial confidence means the estimate relies more heavily on indirect signals. Low confidence means available information is limited or inconsistent.
When confidence is lower, we take a more conservative approach by widening the valuation range. This reflects the uncertainty and increases the probability that the true valuation falls within the estimated range.
Funding figures also require careful interpretation. Reported totals can include equity financing, public offerings, private placements, debt, grants, collaboration payments or other forms of capital.
In a world where LLMs hallucinate and unreliable information is everywhere, our goal is simple: provide data you can trust.
If you want the full detail on a specific valuation estimate, feel free to contact us and we will gladly explain.
Finally, know that we update the dataset once per month, so come back here if you need fresh information.

NEW MARKET PITCH TEAM
We track new markets so founders and investors can move fasterWe build living “market pitch” documents for emerging markets: from AI to synthetic biology and new proteins. Instead of digging through outdated PDFs, random blog posts, and hallucinated LLM answers, our clients get a clean, visual, always-updated view of what’s really happening. We map the key players, deals, regulations, metrics and signals that matter so you can decide faster whether a market is worth your time. Want to know more? Check out our about page. You can also follow us on Instagram or on Facebook.
How we created this content 🔎📝
At New Market Pitch, we kept seeing the same problem: when you look at a new market, the data is either missing, paywalled, or buried in 300-page reports that feel like they were written in the 80s. On the other side, LLMs and random blog posts give you confident answers with no sources, and sometimes they just make things up. That’s not good enough when you’re about to invest real money or launch a company.
So we decided to fix the experience. For each market we cover, we build a structured database and update it on a regular basis. We track funding rounds, fund memos, M&A moves, partnerships, new products, policy changes, and the real activity of startups and incumbents. Then we turn all of that into a clear “market pitch” that shows where the opportunities are and how people actually win in that space.
Every key data point is checked, sourced, and put back into context by our team. That’s how we can give you both speed and reliability: fast coverage of new markets, without the usual guesswork.
