- The 48 carbon removal funding deals in this list represent more than $1.08 billion in disclosed funding between Q1 2024 and Q2 2026.
- Direct Air Capture attracted many of the largest carbon removal funding rounds. Heirloom raised $150 million, Climeworks raised $162 million, and CarbonCapture raised $80 million.
- The carbon removal market is becoming more diverse. The funding list covers air capture, biochar, ocean removal, mineralization, enhanced weathering, biomass storage, and carbon project infrastructure.
- Funding activity was strongest in 2024 by deal count. The carbon removal market recorded 25 deals in 2024, compared with 16 deals in 2025 and seven deals through Q2 2026.
- Large rounds had a major effect on total funding. Climeworks and Heirloom raised a combined $312 million, which represents almost 29% of all disclosed funding in this list.
- Ocean carbon removal companies are attracting more investors. Gigablue, Equatic, Captura, Planetary Technologies, SeaO2, Vycarb, and pHathom Technologies all secured funding.
- Enhanced weathering is moving beyond laboratory research. Terradot, Alt Carbon, Eion, CREW Carbon, and other carbon removal companies are funding field deployments and commercial expansion.
- Biochar remains an important part of the carbon removal market because biochar projects can combine durable storage with soil and agricultural benefits.
- The carbon removal market includes both technology developers and project operators. Some companies build capture equipment, while others develop projects, measurement systems, and carbon credit infrastructure.
- Early-stage funding remains common in the carbon removal market. Several companies raised less than $5 million to test technologies, build pilot projects, or improve measurement systems.
