Key valuation trends in the quantum computing market
Insights
- The quantum computing market is highly concentrated. The ten largest startups represent approximately 71.7% of the database’s combined midpoint valuation, despite accounting for only about 10% of the companies.
- Quantinuum, IonQ, D-Wave Systems and Rigetti Computing carry a combined value of about $50.3 billion after raising $2.75 billion, equal to more than 18 dollars of valuation per dollar raised.
- Quantinuum alone is valued at $20.3 billion, approximately 140 times the median quantum startup valuation and more than the combined value of D-Wave Systems and Rigetti Computing.
- Oxford Ionics and Lightsynq generated approximately $1.46 billion in acquisition value from only $58 million of combined funding, highlighting strong strategic demand for quantum processors and interconnect technology.
- Photonic quantum companies receive very different market premiums. Xanadu has a midpoint valuation near $3.4 billion on $250 million of funding, while Photonic reaches about $2.0 billion after raising $350 million.
- Quantum networking is becoming a separate investment category. Nu Quantum and QphoX have a combined midpoint valuation near $477 million after raising approximately $86 million.
- Quantum software can create meaningful value with less capital than full hardware platforms. Riverlane, Phasecraft, Algorithmiq, Qedma and Strangeworks represent about $1 billion in midpoint value on roughly $275 million of funding.
- The median valuation-to-capital-raised ratio is approximately 5.2 times across companies with available funding data, but several specialized businesses significantly exceed this level.

A few word about our methodology
As you can see, we built a database that ranks startups in the quantum computing market based on their current valuation.
Estimating quantum computing startup valuations is not always straightforward. Many companies do not publicly disclose their valuation, and the available information can vary widely depending on the company, its financing stage and its technical approach.
To build this ranking, we applied a structured valuation methodology and cross-checked information across multiple reliable sources.
Whenever possible, we relied on direct disclosures. These include announced valuations from completed funding rounds, public filings for listed companies, or official acquisition prices.
When a quantum computing company is publicly listed, we use its current market capitalization as the reference valuation.
If a company was acquired and no independent valuation can reasonably be estimated today, we use the acquisition price as the main reference point.
When a quantum computing startup recently raised capital but the valuation was not disclosed, we estimate the implied valuation using typical dilution levels for that stage of fundraising.
In some cases, we also estimate valuations using operating metrics such as revenue, ARR, customer traction, hardware deliveries or commercial contracts, combined with valuation multiples from comparable quantum computing companies.
When direct financial data is not available, we may rely on carefully selected comparable startups and other signals such as hiring growth, investor quality, technical milestones, partnerships, government contracts or product traction.
Quantum computing companies are not all directly comparable. Hardware developers usually require more capital than software companies, while processors, control systems, cooling equipment, networking components and error-correction platforms can follow different commercial models.
We therefore compare each company with relevant businesses that use similar quantum technologies or serve a similar part of the value chain.
All estimates follow a strict evidence hierarchy. Recent funding rounds with announced valuations carry the most weight, followed by strong operating metrics and comparable company analysis.
We also carefully evaluate the age of every data point. Recent information carries more weight, while older data is treated cautiously and adjusted conservatively when necessary.
Whenever information is uncertain or incomplete, we clearly distinguish between confirmed facts and reasonable inferences.
Because valuation data is not always fully public, each quantum computing startup in the ranking is assigned a confidence level based on the reliability, recency and consistency of the available evidence.
Full confidence means the valuation is supported by strong and recent evidence. Strong confidence means the estimate is well supported but includes minor inference. Partial confidence means the estimate relies more heavily on indirect signals. Low confidence means available information is limited or inconsistent.
When confidence is lower, we take a more conservative approach by widening the valuation range. This helps reflect the uncertainty and increases the probability that the true valuation falls within the estimated range.
For valuation ranges, the summary calculations use the midpoint between the lower and upper values. Companies without available funding information are excluded from calculations that compare valuation with capital raised.
