SUMMARY
D-Fend Solutions is ahead in the drone-detection startup race today, with Robin Radar Systems and MyDefence posing the strongest specialist challenges.
D-Fend’s lead comes from commercial scale rather than one spectacular sensor specification. Expected 2026 revenue of about $185 million, thousands of deployments and operations across more than 30 countries put it in a different business tier from the rest of the private field.
The ranking changes when detection is isolated from the broader counter-drone workflow. Robin Radar has the strongest case in pure mobile radar, especially against autonomous, unfamiliar or radio-silent targets that an RF-first platform may miss.
MyDefence is the company moving fastest on the ground. Its workforce, factories and deployed battlefield equipment have expanded quickly while the business remained profitable, an unusual combination in defense technology.
The strongest products are not converging on one architecture. Radar, RF intelligence, passive sensor networks and autonomous interception solve different versions of the same problem, so the likely end state is layered systems rather than one universal detector.
Manufacturing could reshuffle the field. Echodyne’s new facility is designed for more than 30,000 radars a year, but capacity only becomes leadership when large procurement programs turn into sustained shipments.
Contract quality matters more than headline ceilings. Robin’s 100-radar Dutch order is unusually clean because the product, quantity, training and deliveries are public, while several larger US procurement vehicles still leave actual supplier revenue uncertain.
Airports and cities favor systems that identify operators and avoid creating a second disruption. That gives D-Fend and Hidden Level an edge over approaches built mainly around jamming or physical interception.
Battlefield demand pulls the market in another direction. MyDefence’s wearable detectors, Robin’s mobile radar and Fortem’s autonomous interceptors cover different layers, and none can fully replace the other.
The hardest advantages to copy are accumulating outside the hardware itself: D-Fend’s protocol library, Hidden Level’s geographic sensor networks, field data, command-software integrations and access to government procurement channels.
D-Fend’s biggest risk is technical rather than commercial. A faster shift toward autonomous and radio-silent drones would raise the value of Robin, Echodyne and Hidden Level and narrow the current leader’s advantage.
For now, D-Fend has the broadest lead, Robin is the best pure-detection challenger, MyDefence has the strongest immediate momentum and Echodyne has the clearest route to a major jump if its factory begins shipping at scale.

Drone detection: which startup is ahead?
Which drone-detection startups should we actually compare?
The credible drone-detection startup race currently contains eight companies, although only four or five have enough scale to argue seriously about overall leadership.
We include D-Fend Solutions, Robin Radar Systems, MyDefence, Echodyne, Hidden Level, Fortem Technologies, SkySafe and MatrixSpace. Each has developed proprietary detection technology and shown at least one meaningful form of market validation, such as military deployments, repeat public-sector customers, scaled manufacturing or substantial institutional funding.
The boundary matters. Robin Radar, Echodyne and MatrixSpace primarily sell radar. D-Fend and MyDefence combine radio-frequency detection with electronic mitigation. Hidden Level and SkySafe focus heavily on persistent airspace intelligence. Fortem connects detection directly to autonomous interception. We compare their ability to find, classify and track drones first, then give extra weight to identification, mitigation and integration where those capabilities improve the customer’s actual outcome.
Dedrone and Sentrycs remain important competitors, but they have left the startup field. Axon completed its acquisition of Dedrone, while Ondas completed its purchase of Sentrycs. We also exclude listed company DroneShield and large industrial groups such as Thales, Hensoldt, Leonardo and Rheinmetall. D-Fend stays in the ranking because Motorola Solutions has signed an acquisition agreement, but the transaction is still expected to close later in 2026.
Funding figures are unusually messy here. Several companies have private-equity owners, undisclosed rounds or acquisitions whose proceeds should not be confused with fresh operating capital. The table uses cumulative disclosed funding where possible and labels incomplete totals clearly.

Is there a clear drone-detection leader today?
D-Fend Solutions is ahead overall today, with Robin Radar and MyDefence mounting the strongest specialist challenges.
Motorola Solutions disclosed numbers that separate D-Fend from the rest of the private field. The company expects about $185 million in 2026 revenue, has grown by more than 50% annually for three consecutive years and has accumulated thousands of deployments across more than 30 countries. No other startup here has publicly shown that combination of revenue, geographic reach and installed systems.
Its lead has limits. D-Fend’s original strength comes from understanding and taking control of drone communication protocols. Robin Radar can detect physical objects even when they emit no recognizable radio signal. MyDefence has distributed small battlefield devices at a scale that D-Fend does not publicly claim. Echodyne is building far more radar manufacturing capacity than any peer.
The market has one broad commercial leader and several specialists: Robin in dedicated drone radar, MyDefence in wearable battlefield detection, Echodyne in planned sensor production, Hidden Level in passive networks and Fortem in integrated interception.

Who has built the biggest real drone-detection business?
D-Fend has built the largest verified drone-detection business by a comfortable margin.
Its expected $185 million annual revenue is several times larger than the public evidence available for most competitors. Compounding growth of exactly 50% for three years would multiply revenue by 3.4. That puts D-Fend’s implied revenue three years earlier below roughly $55 million, even before accounting for the fact that actual growth exceeded 50%. The company has added an entire mid-sized defense technology business in annual sales during that period.
Motorola agreed to pay $1.5 billion, equivalent to about 8.1 times D-Fend’s expected annual revenue. That price reflects a functioning commercial platform rather than a collection of pilots. Thousands of installations also spread the company’s exposure across government, public safety and commercial infrastructure instead of tying it to one military program.
Robin Radar has reportedly expanded turnover rapidly and now has a large national defense order. MyDefence publishes strong profit figures. Hidden Level and Fortem have serious government work. None currently discloses revenue at D-Fend’s level. It is a pretty clear gap.
Which drone-detection startup is growing fastest now?
MyDefence currently has the most aggressive operating growth, while D-Fend remains the fastest-growing company that has already reached major commercial scale.
MyDefence’s workforce increased from 52 employees at the beginning of 2025 to 135 by May 2026. That is a 160% increase in roughly 17 months. During the same period, it maintained DKK 125.4 million in net profit, lifted gross profit by 17.4% to DKK 252 million and financed expansion without relying on additional external capital. It now operates full-scale production in Denmark and the United States.
The Financial Times later reported that MyDefence’s sales were poised to more than double and that Bridgepoint was exploring a sale potentially valuing the company near $1 billion. The valuation remains an early sale-process estimate, but the expected sales acceleration fits the hiring, factory expansion and order activity already visible in the company’s accounts.
Fortem is also accelerating. It received a multimillion-dollar World Cup order, entered a critical-infrastructure deployment agreement with Lockheed Martin, secured the first Replicator 2 purchase of DroneHunter and raised $25 million from Lockheed. Those events arrived within a few months rather than being scattered across several years.
D-Fend still adds more business in absolute terms because it is sustaining growth above 50% near nine-figure revenue. MyDefence, however, is expanding operations fastest.

Who has the most mature drone-detection product?
D-Fend has the most mature overall product, while Robin Radar and MyDefence have reached comparable maturity inside narrower use cases.
A mature counter-drone product has to survive crowded radio environments, bad weather, moving platforms, legal restrictions and users who cannot spend months learning the system. D-Fend’s thousands of deployments cover airports, defense sites, public events, prisons, universities and critical infrastructure. The FAA has also evaluated EnforceAir in its airport detection and mitigation program.
Robin’s maturity shows up in delivery speed and military standardization. The Dutch Ministry of Defence ordered 100 IRIS radars. Robin delivered the first 30 within 24 hours and reached 50 deliveries within two weeks, while the initial user groups completed operational training. That is a repeatable production product, not customized engineering for every customer.
MyDefence has more than 2,000 Wingman wearable detectors operating in Ukraine, with thousands more deployed elsewhere according to the company. Frontline feedback has already shaped new hardware covering frequencies from 200 MHz to 6 GHz. That feedback loop is valuable because adversaries constantly change frequencies, control systems and flight patterns.
Which startup has the strongest drone-detection technology and pilot identification?
Robin Radar currently has the strongest pure detection product, while D-Fend provides the richest live intelligence about radio-linked drones and their pilots.
Robin’s IRIS radar covers 360 degrees horizontally and 60 degrees vertically, with a five-kilometre instrumented range and 78 square kilometres of standard coverage. Its long-range software mode extends the instrumented range to 12 kilometres. The radar can be set up in under 15 minutes and can detect, track and classify while mounted on a vehicle moving at up to 100 kilometres per hour.
That combination works particularly well when customers need one mobile sensor to watch a large area. Radar can also continue seeing physical targets when they use unfamiliar protocols, fly autonomously or remain radio-silent.
D-Fend wins on identification. Its RF-cyber layer can obtain the drone’s make, model and serial number, distinguish authorized aircraft, locate the pilot and identify the take-off point. A radar track may show that something is approaching; D-Fend can often explain what it is, who controls it and where the flight began.
Hidden Level comes closest in persistent operator tracking. Its distributed sensors triangulate radio sources and combine current alerts with historical activity, which helps identify recurring routes and operators across a city or military installation. The company publishes expected urban location accuracy of about 50 metres at a five-kilometre tracking range, although actual performance depends on sensor placement and local conditions.
SkySafe has the stronger investigative angle. Its platform stores flight history, supports drone forensics and works with Cellebrite so law-enforcement teams can connect airspace activity with evidence recovered from devices.
Published performance numbers use different targets, environments and probability thresholds, so they describe product positioning rather than a controlled head-to-head benchmark.

Which drone-detection startup works best around airports and cities?
D-Fend is currently the best complete option for airports and crowded sites, while Hidden Level has the stronger citywide monitoring model.
Airports need accurate alerts without creating a second disruption. Broad jamming can interfere with legitimate systems, and physical interception may drop debris onto passengers, roads or runways. D-Fend’s cyber-takeover approach can isolate supported rogue drones and guide them to a controlled landing while approved drones continue operating. The FAA’s evaluation and the company’s expansion into multilayer radar and jamming make it the most developed airport workflow in this group.
Hidden Level approaches the problem as shared infrastructure. It owns and operates networks of passive sensors installed on rooftops, buildings and towers, then sells customers the resulting airspace data. The company says it brought Stewart Air National Guard Base online within 24 hours and streamed the same information into Palantir for federal, state and local users within 48 hours. Those figures come from Hidden Level, but they show why a service model can move faster than a traditional radar procurement.
SkySafe deserves more credit than its funding or visibility suggests. Rhode Island renewed its contract for another three years and expanded coverage across airports, prisons and other high-risk locations. Renewals carry more weight than a newly announced pilot because the customer has already used the product and chosen to broaden its deployment.

Which startup is strongest on the battlefield?
MyDefence is the battlefield leader at soldier level, Robin Radar leads the wider detection layer and Fortem offers the strongest autonomous interception package.
MyDefence’s advantage starts with distribution. More than 2,000 Wingman detectors are currently deployed in Ukraine, giving individual soldiers passive warning of nearby drone activity. Its newer wideband equipment covers 200 MHz to 6 GHz and connects directly with ATAK, allowing detections to appear on the tactical picture already used by many units.
The company also spans more of the battlefield than its wearable product suggests. It sells vehicle-mounted and fixed equipment, opened an innovation hub in Ukraine and now manufactures in both Denmark and the United States. Its product updates are shaped by direct frontline exposure rather than occasional military trials.
Robin covers the medium-range layer that wearable RF detectors cannot. IRIS can track objects that emit no usable radio signal and has been used in Ukraine against small drones and larger loitering munitions. Its mobility also lets units redeploy radar with convoys instead of protecting one fixed base.
Fortem closes the loop. Its TrueView radar feeds SkyDome software, which sends DroneHunter interceptors to capture targets with nets. The first Replicator 2 purchase and Lockheed Martin’s decision to integrate Fortem into its Sanctum ecosystem show that US buyers view the system as deployable rather than experimental.

Who can manufacture drone-detection hardware at real scale?
Echodyne currently has the largest credible radar manufacturing capacity, and MyDefence has expanded production fastest in response to immediate demand.
Echodyne has opened an 86,350-square-foot Washington facility after investing about $40 million. The factory has begun end-to-end manufacturing and is designed to exceed 30,000 radars per year, equal to more than 2,500 per month. The company is also creating more than 100 jobs, with capacity for as many as 200 when production reaches full scale.
The 30,000-unit figure describes capacity rather than confirmed orders, but Echodyne has removed a bottleneck that would stop most radar startups from responding to a major military procurement.
MyDefence has expanded capacity tenfold since opening a new facility, added full-scale US manufacturing and more than doubled its workforce. Its production growth is already tied to deployed equipment, current orders and profitability, giving it stronger near-term utilization evidence than Echodyne.
Robin has shown the fastest execution against one unusually large order. It delivered half of its 100-radar Dutch contract within two weeks.

Who has won the strongest drone-detection contracts?
Robin Radar has the cleanest large direct order, while Echodyne and Fortem have the strongest paths into repeated US defense procurement.
The Dutch Ministry of Defence’s purchase of 100 IRIS radars gives Robin the strongest contract that can be measured in actual detection units. The buyer, product, quantity, training and first deliveries are all public. That makes the order far more informative than an unnamed partnership or a contract ceiling without guaranteed spending.
Echodyne’s EchoShield sits inside Trust Automation’s counter-drone system under a US Air Force procurement vehicle with a ceiling of $490 million. Echodyne will receive only the portion connected to radar orders, and the government has no obligation to spend the whole ceiling. Even with those limits, inclusion gives Echodyne access to repeated orders through an established prime contractor.
Fortem has assembled a broader package of paid programs. It secured a three-year, $18 million US Army contract, entered Replicator 2, received a multimillion-dollar World Cup order and won a Lockheed Martin critical-infrastructure deployment. The amounts remain below Robin’s visible unit commitment, but the range of buyers suggests that Fortem is moving into several procurement channels at once.
Hidden Level has contracts supporting the US Army, Air Force and several combatant commands. Its latest funding disclosure named more than a dozen deployed customers, including NASA and the Department of Defense, although individual contract values and sensor counts remain private.
Robin wins on one clear purchase. Fortem has the broadest recent pipeline of visible new awards. Echodyne may ultimately extract the most volume if its procurement frameworks turn into sustained production orders.

Which startup offers the best economics for customers?
MatrixSpace has the clearest low-friction cost story; public pricing is still too thin to crown a universal value winner.
MatrixSpace’s radar can be deployed within minutes, requires little supporting infrastructure and covers a 1.1-kilometre radius against small drones. That gives customers a practical way to add local radar around a base, prison, stadium or industrial site without building a permanent tower. Its coverage is much smaller than Robin’s, but many customers only need to watch a defined perimeter.
Hidden Level offers a different economic model. Customers can subscribe to airspace data while Hidden Level owns, installs and maintains the underlying sensor network. A city or regional agency can share coverage across multiple locations instead of buying an independent system for each site. The trade-off is dependence on Hidden Level’s network and continued service.
D-Fend’s economic argument rests on avoided disruption. Airports and public venues can potentially remove supported drones without area-wide jamming, runway closures or projectiles. One prevented airport shutdown could outweigh years of equipment cost, although D-Fend does not publish enough pricing or incident data for us to calculate a credible payback period.
MyDefence probably has the strongest cost logic for distributed military units. A wearable detector can protect an individual squad without assigning a radar and trained crew to every position. Robin becomes more economical when one radar replaces several shorter-range sensors, while Fortem can reduce repeated interceptor costs by capturing drones with reusable platforms.
We can compare architectures confidently. We cannot claim that one company is cheapest because purchase prices, service fees, maintenance costs and discount structures remain largely private.
Which startup has used its funding most efficiently?
D-Fend has converted funding into revenue and strategic value more efficiently than any well-documented competitor.
The company publicly announced a $28 million round and a later $31 million round, while an earlier financing remains undisclosed. Using only those two known rounds, its pending $1.5 billion purchase price equals more than 25 times the disclosed capital. The ratio overstates true efficiency because the missing early round belongs in the denominator, but the gap is wide enough to survive a reasonable adjustment.
D-Fend also reached substantial revenue before selling. That distinguishes it from startups whose valuations rest mostly on intellectual property, future production or expected government programs.
MyDefence may eventually prove equally efficient. It generated DKK 125.4 million in net profit while funding expansion internally, and the amount Bridgepoint invested remains undisclosed. Without that figure and a clean revenue number, any direct capital-efficiency ratio would be guesswork.
Echodyne has raised roughly $202 million and spent heavily on a new factory. Hidden Level has raised more than $121 million to build a national-security sensor network. Those models naturally consume more capital than D-Fend’s software-heavy RF platform. Their spending becomes efficient if the newly built capacity wins large recurring programs, but the public evidence has not reached that point yet.

Whose advantage will be hardest for competitors to copy?
D-Fend has the strongest software-and-data moat, Robin and Echodyne have the strongest hardware moats, and Hidden Level has the best network moat.
D-Fend has spent years decoding drone protocols, identifying communication behavior and building safe takeover methods. Every newly supported model requires engineering and testing, while every deployment can improve its knowledge of real drone activity. A competitor can buy RF hardware quickly. Rebuilding the protocol library, operational history and regulatory trust would take far longer.
That advantage weakens against autonomous, modified or radio-silent drones. D-Fend has responded by adding radar and optional jamming to EnforceAir PLUS. Its future moat will come from combining proprietary cyber takeover with other sensors rather than relying on RF coverage alone.
Robin and Echodyne own harder engineering advantages. Small-drone radar requires antenna design, clutter suppression, micro-Doppler classification, tracking software and years of field data. Echodyne also holds numerous patents around its metamaterials electronically scanned array architecture.
Hidden Level’s moat grows with geography. Once a network covers a city, airbase or infrastructure corridor, the company accumulates local history, recurring flight patterns and integrations with customer software. A new competitor could install one good sensor, but matching the complete coverage map and historical dataset would require time and access.
The most defensible companies are increasingly becoming layers inside larger security ecosystems. Motorola is buying D-Fend, Axon bought Dedrone, Ondas bought Sentrycs, and Lockheed is embedding Fortem. Distribution, command software and procurement access may become as difficult to copy as the underlying sensor.
Which drone-detection startup has the strongest momentum right now?
MyDefence has the strongest immediate business momentum, with Fortem and Echodyne making the fastest strategic moves behind it.
MyDefence now combines profitable growth, tenfold production expansion, factories on two continents, more than 2,000 battlefield deployments and active work with the US Department of Homeland Security around World Cup security. The Financial Times reported that sales could more than double, while Bridgepoint is exploring a possible sale near $1 billion. Each data point comes from a different part of the business, yet they point in the same direction: demand is moving from battlefield equipment into larger homeland-security and infrastructure programs.
Fortem’s recent run is equally concentrated. Lockheed invested $25 million, selected its systems for critical infrastructure, integrated it into Sanctum and helped move the product toward broader deployment. Fortem also began delivering DroneHunter 5.0 and won paid work for World Cup venues. The company has shifted from an interesting interceptor specialist into a supplier attached to several urgent US programs.
Echodyne has just opened the category’s largest dedicated startup radar factory and formed a public-safety partnership with Axon. That combination could expose its sensors to Axon’s large customer base while giving the company enough capacity to fill major orders.
Robin has continued deploying rapidly, including deliveries in the Gulf within weeks of an order and mass use around World Cup operations. D-Fend’s acquisition agreement confirms its strength, although the company is now entering an integration phase rather than fighting as a fully independent startup.

Which drone-detection startups are actually ahead?
D-Fend Solutions is the startup ahead overall today; Robin Radar and MyDefence are the closest challengers, while Echodyne has the clearest route to moving up.
D-Fend is the only company in this field with verified nine-figure expected revenue and deployments counted in the thousands across more than 30 countries. It leads across more commercially important dimensions than any rival: revenue, international reach, product breadth, identification, mitigation and funding efficiency.
Robin ranks second because it leads the core detection job itself. IRIS has large-area coverage, mobility, silent-target detection, rapid delivery and one of the clearest national military orders in the market. Its weakness is narrower category coverage. Robin generally supplies the sensor and relies on partners for richer identification, command software and mitigation.
MyDefence ranks third and is catching up fastest. It has profitable operations, thousands of battlefield units, expanding homeland-security work and production in Europe and the United States. The company could pass Robin if its expected sales growth becomes visible in audited revenue and large repeat orders.
Echodyne ranks fourth because its commercial disclosure trails its technical and industrial ambition. Capacity above 30,000 radars per year could make it the dominant sensor supplier inside other companies’ systems. The ranking will move quickly if that factory begins shipping at even a meaningful fraction of its ceiling.
Hidden Level comes fifth with a distinct passive-network model and deep US government exposure. Fortem follows closely and has more recent deal momentum, but detection represents only one part of its interceptor-led proposition. SkySafe owns a credible public-safety and forensic niche. MatrixSpace remains earlier, with a compelling portable radar and growing defense validation but little evidence of comparable scale.
The biggest threat to D-Fend’s position is a change in the threat itself. More autonomous and radio-silent drones would increase the value of Robin, Echodyne and Hidden Level. A surge in demand for low-cost physical interception would favor Fortem. For now, D-Fend has the broadest lead and the largest gap.

OUR METHODOLOGY
This analysis tests which drone-detection startup is ahead by separating leadership into the dimensions that matter in practice: commercial scale, growth, product maturity, technical capability, manufacturing, customer adoption, contract quality, economics, funding efficiency, defensibility and recent momentum.
We prioritized recent execution over historical reputation. The market is changing quickly through acquisitions, defense procurement, factory expansion and shifts in the drone threat, so older achievements were used as context rather than allowed to outweigh newer operating evidence.
The companies do not all sell the same thing. Radar specialists, RF-intelligence platforms, passive sensor networks and integrated detect-and-intercept systems were first compared within the jobs they perform best, then assessed on how consistently they showed strength across the wider customer workflow.
Technical figures such as detection range, coverage, tracking accuracy and pilot-location capability were not treated as clean head-to-head benchmarks because companies test different targets under different conditions. We used those figures to establish product positioning, then checked them against deployments, repeat customers, operational use and production evidence.
Verified revenue, signed orders, delivered units, repeat contracts, disclosed deployments and functioning manufacturing capacity received more weight than partnership announcements, framework ceilings, projected factory output or future sales expectations. Funding totals were treated cautiously where private-equity investments, undisclosed rounds or acquisition proceeds made direct comparisons unreliable.
Key sources included company disclosures from D-Fend Solutions, Robin Radar Systems, MyDefence, Echodyne, Hidden Level, Fortem Technologies, SkySafe and MatrixSpace; acquisition and investment disclosures from Motorola Solutions, Axon, Ondas Holdings and Lockheed Martin; procurement and operational material from the FAA, the US Department of Defense, the US Army Contracting Command and the Dutch Ministry of Defence; and reporting or funding references from the Financial Times, Crunchbase and PitchBook.
The final ranking reflects the cumulative weight of evidence rather than victory in one specialist category. Companies ranked higher when they combined credible technology with commercial execution, repeat customer validation and operational scale.
